American environment groups are offering to help defray some of the travels costs for qualified Canadians who want to attend the debut of Boreal Chamber Symphony orchestra in Marquette, MI on Lake Superior Day - July 15, 2007. The concert is free but all donations go to the Lake Superior Defense Fund. Organizers are hoping Canadian cities around Lake Suiperior will host similar events each Lake Superior Day to raise money to protect the largest freshwater lake in North America. The goal is to inspire Canadians groups, musicians, and local governments to start similar proects that will create a ring of protection around Lake Superior. The event is sponsored by the Superior Watershed Partnership and Cedar Tree Institute, Marquette non-profits that founded the Earth Keeper Initiative in 2004. The Canadian Government has given $102,500 of tax-payers' money to the Thunder Bay CEDC to 'hire a consulting company' to help local firms secure sub-contracting jobs connected with the Alberta oilsands development.
